Here goes. I did not believe that I would have enough to contribute to society to attempt a blog, but I'm going to give it the old grade eleven try. I was listening to the news today to moves that Premier Ed was going to make to fight crime in our wealthy province. He's going to go out and hire a whole bunch more policemen and public procecutors. I do not know whether or not we need these people , maybe we do, maybe we don't. I think though that time money and a good deal more thought would be better spent first on the other end of our system. doing a better job making sure the criminals pay more for the crimes they commit and that the victims are better looked after for the suffering endured at the hands of these people. I'm afraid I'm a little more conservative than Liberal in things like length of jail sentences and parol times for perpetrators and the standard of living in incarceration. Things like voting and other rights should be forfeited when crimes are committed. This is not rocket science, much of it may be more of a deterent. Rehabilitation is something that should be used in place of parol and should be earned. I do not have or profess to have all the answers to our problems , but I do not think shoving a whole bunch of policemen and lawyers at a system that is badly defective is the right thing to do. We would be better off spending some of that money examining and developing a system that will work not just for the criminal but for the victim too.
